QR Code FAQ

What is a QR Code Generator?

A QR code generator is software that stores data in a QR code (for example text or URL). For example, you can do this easily using our online QR generator: simply create a QR code by typing in your data and downloading it as PNG or high-resolution vector graphics (SVG, EPS). You can now print your free QR code or embed it on your site to make it available to others.

Can I use the generated QR Codes for commercial purposes?

Yes!

Does a QR code have to be only black and white?

No. Most important is a good contrast between the light and dark modules/pixels. Furthermore, colored QR codes should not be negative (in terms of color, the actual black pixels/modules should be darker than the white pixels usually) because the dark modules/pixels contain the data and negative will confuse many QR code readers. You can create colorful QR codes with best-qr-code.com for free. Simply select a background and/or front color in the download, embed or store dialog.

How long are QR Codes valid for? Do they expire?

QR Codes are valid for as long as your URL is alive and will never expire. The only case that the Code might “expire” is when the link is changed or deleted. If you know that your link might change you should use URL shorteners like TinyURL or Bitly. Then, you can create a QR code to the new URL you created with these services and if you need to change the original URL you will do so within there.

Is it possible to count the QR Code scans?

You can track URL scans by referring them to a custom URL (custom page or URL with parameters) and track them with google analytics. Or, you can use URL shortener services that can count the number of times a URL was requested. Check out our list of complimentary design tools that will make your QR code better!

How to scan a QR code?

In the past, in order to scan a QR code, it was necessary to download a dedicated application for scanning barcodes. Today this is much simpler, if you are using the Google Chrome browser (and 70% chance you are) look for the icon of the scanner when you want to type a web address.
